SpamAssassin and Virus protection implemented at eLab

Monterey, CA – July 25, 2003 – Spam Assassin and F-Prot Virus Protection was recently implemented at eLab, protecting clients at the server level from spam and the soBig email virus epidemics.

At eLab, we understand the necessity to stop the abusive flow of Spam. This is why after months of research and software testing, we proudly announce that all eLab's hosting clients are now receiving first-class protection on their server level from spam and virus emails.

Beginning July 25th, 2003, eLab clients were able to opt-in to Spam-Assassin and F-Prot Virus Protection for every domain they owned. The positive response was overwhelming. With Spam email now marked for easy identification, eLab clients were able to direct "Spam" emails into a separate incoming mail folder - immediately eliminating most spam from their main inbox system. The quarantined spam could also be quickly deleted by the recipient, often just by viewing email subject lines and never opening the spam itself.

With server level virus protection also installed, eLabs' clients were easily able to cope with the worldwide soBig epidemic. Virus emails directed at an eLab domain generate an alert which identifies the incoming email as a possible virus. Clients could choose not to download the identified virus and also to direct any alerts, through their own filters, to be stored in a separate folder or deleted. This measure saved several people from the consequences of not updating their own personal virus software.

Latest Domain Name Scams

Monterey, CA – August 2, 2001 – Several recent domain name scams have been brought to our attention by eLab members. Please read the information contained below carefully.

1.Low Ball Pricing to transfer your names from eLab or BulkRegister.
If you receive a solicitation from a registrar or reseller for very low prices please make sure to READ THE FINE PRINT! What you'll find are schemes that lock you into higher prices if you attempt to transfer, renew or change the domain information in anyway. Sometimes they'll offer free email and web hosting complete with lots of annoying pop-up advertising that they don't tell you about. You might think you're saving money until you experience poor service, costly hidden fees and unwanted advertising. Be sure to make informed decisions for security, quality and support before transferring your names.

2.Deceptive Renewal Notices
Emails or US postal mailers are being used to mislead domain name holders about the expiration of their domain names. They are usually in the form of a warning about your domain names expiring. They may even look like a bill. Typically, your domain names and expiration dates are included in the message. In addition, the name eLab or BulkRegister might also be used to create further deception.

The scam messages appear to be generated from large competitive registrars such as VeriSign (Network Solutions) and Register.com or their resellers. If you receive any notices (either email or postal) from ANY other registrar or reseller, please bring them to our attention.

eLab sends out ALL renewal notices via email ONLY, to our members or to the billing and administrative contacts of the domain name. If you receive email or US Postal mail concerning the renewal of your names that you are unsure about, please contact eLab Support immediately. We will confirm the message and guide you through the renewal process. To avoid being deceived by any renewal scam, always contact eLab before renewing any domain.
